Yesterday, 31 Days of Personhood: Day 29: Learning Style, we talked about figuring out how we learn best and capitalizing on that information. When we know the right combination to unlock our talents and gifts, we can hit the ground running every time.
“No man is free who is not master of himself.”
Throughout this series we have talked about how few things in life we can control through our sheer will. But, we also have acknowledged that we do not always exercise control over even those few things.
If we cannot control our emotions, what we think, how we think, and what we choose to act on based on those thoughts, then we are prisoners to other people and circumstances. We are defeated before we begin if we only succumb to what the world offers us.
Life is often difficult and fraught with calamities, large and small. And, sadly, many of them imaginary. But, it is also filled with joy and happiness, which are two different things, I think. See: The secret of happiness…
I could have accepted that I was not cute, not talented, not gifted, and certainly not bright enough to escape the trap of a different kind of life barely making ends meet, living in a place I no longer wanted to be. Yes, I could have found contentment there, as I have learned in most circumstances.
You want to do something, something at work, or at home, or wherever that makes your heart and soul sing.
I figured out early in life what I wanted to do professionally. I also sensed early in life what my spiritual life would be like. And, this was a lot different than my parents.
But, the point is that we are free in so many ways that we do not take advantage of, it is heart-breaking.
What do I want you to do?
1. Yes, you have to choose again and write in your journal. If money were no object, or if you could make enough money doing it, because frankly, money is always an object, what would you give your heart, soul and passion to? What would you be doing?
2. How can you make this happen to even a small degree? For instance, if you want to write, start a blog and build on that. If you want to sing literally, sign up for some lessons. Need some exercise, but hate the thought of a gym membership, sign up for dance class.
You are freer than you know. Feed what makes you thrive!
