For those things which we deem important to us, we must likewise decide that they are important enough for us to be uncomfortable, endure setbacks, travel alone if the need arises. Sometimes for extended periods of time.
Sticking with the metaphor, we must be prepared for all contingencies before we set sail. If we expect only smooth sailing as we make our journey through life, then we are deluding ourselves, and setting ourselves up for failure. Life will assail us, catch us off-guard, move us to places we had not expected.
Preparation makes a great deal of difference in moving toward success. There is an old military adage that applies to this:
But, in spite of all of the best preparations, the most studied of situations, we ultimately get to see the worth of our mettle, what stuff we are made of, while in the middle of the storm, or when we “get on the wall,” to quote the late rock climber, Todd Skinner. All of our skills, preparation, common sense and know-how finally come together and show us who we are (or are not) when the storm hits.
That is also a time when we see with crystal clarity the real value of what we want to accomplish. Is it truly valuable to us? Is it just another passing fancy? Or, is it worth risking everything? The answer lies inside you.
To your continued success!!!
