We all fear something; or many things. Fear keeps us bound. Sometimes it keeps us hedged in for our own protection. But, most often it keeps us bound to the footpaths of mediocrity and apathy. We take fewer risks. We put up with more stuff. We give our silent ascent to things we do not agree with or believe in. And we bore ourselves to tears. But we can still feel that longing inside pulling us toward the often undefined more. There is an adage that says, “Everything you want lie on the other side of your fear.”
Well, perhaps not “everything,” but some thing does. Do yourself a kindness this week. Choose one single thing that you have been afraid of doing, and do it. Pick one thing that you have been longing to do. Sign up for that class. Ask someone out. Take up a new hobby. Put yourself “out there.” Or, ferret out one thing that seems not quite right in your world, that you want to and know that you can make right. One single thing, and commit to doing it.
Just one thing… and begin to free yourself from your self-imposed prison.
Step outside of the fear. Just this once…
You will be glad you did.
